Feckless gesture of appropriated scape, 2020
GLASS, WATER, ACRYLIC PAINT, RAZOR BLADES
The space that couples this room to clean air
Crisp silence as it bids a sharp touch on my palm
Structural confines fabricated by my ancestors
Suppressing unceded territory
How to compose a scape of a land that has been entombed
Of which my eyes have not seen but more than a sliver of its graces
Breath dances upon the glass
As strokes digest the palette before me in an unsettled form
Tightly gripping shape
Imitating authority
Boasting of my own perspective
In every blade and beam
And for a moment I hear myself commit you
In the land I invaded you are a foreigner—
Liberate the gesture
I want no part in this
Surrendering self-preservation
Shaving the marks from the window
Crying a futile echo
